Evaluation of Enzymun System(ES-300) Enzyme Immunoassay Analyzer for the Measurement of Serum a-Fetoprotein (AFP)

Abstract

|
As a-Fetoprotein(AFP) is used more extensively as a marker for hepatoma, testicular tumor and neural tube defect, etc, the more precise and accurate assay of AFP should be needed. Radioimmunoassay(RIA) is sensitive and widely used method so far, but the nonisotopic immunoassay is now replacing the RIA because of its drawbacks such as radiohazard and short half-life. We evaluated the performance of a newly developed immunoassay analyzer Enzymun System; ES-300(Boehringer Mannheim, Germany) for measurement of serum AFP. ES-300 showed good precision (between run CV <5 %) and good recovery rate(mean 102%). Linearity was well maintained in the range of 3-265 ng/ mL and correlation of ES300 with RIA was good(r=0.99). Thus we conclude that ES-300 is very reliable method for measurement of AFP as a substitute for RIA.
